When French Immersion Courses Go Wrong Because Of The Arrogant Attitude That French People Have And
Why You Need a Seriously Thick Skin
The French are known to be a pretty arrogant bunch of people, who think the entire world should speak French. They will not be impressed with your efforts but rather be pretty disgusted with the fact that you weren't born speaking fluent French. A good example is provided by my uncle who went to France and wanted to order coffee for his table of six. My uncle is Dutch and his French is lousy to say the very least. He didn't know the French word for €six€ and instead pronounced the Dutch word for six (zes) with a French accent. This came out as €zsse€, which, according to the waiter, was much closer to the French word for sixtien (seize). Low and behold, sixteen cups of coffee were brought to the table of six (which was actually a table for four with two chairs added). Any normal person would understand that my uncle had made a mistake, the French, however, do no such thing.
Why You Should Still Do It
With that in mind, why should you even bother going on a French immersion course? Because it works, that's why. Let's not forget that the truth is that French is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. It is the language of love and art. It is also one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, which is an important factor to consider. Last but not least, how much fun will you have correcting a French person yourself at some point or another (they make plenty of mistakes themselves!)? Sure, it is hard work and it is ungrateful work. But, the results you will be provided with are amazing and you will learn something that you will never forget and that will benefit you for the rest of your life.
