      Dentists diagnose and treat problems with teeth and oral tissues, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Although these professionals usually must complete a four-year bachelor's degree program followed by four years of dental school, some colleges allow students to complete their dental training in just seven years through an accelerated program. Employment of dentists is expected to increase by 16 percent through 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Median annual wages of these professionals in May 2008 were $142,870, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    University of Florida

    • The University of Florida College of Dentistry in Gainesville, Florida, offers an Honors Combined Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Dental Medicine Program in Dentistry. High school students who enter this program can complete their undergraduate degree and dental training in seven years instead of eight years. During the first three years of the program, students take courses that lead to bachelor's degrees in majors such as nutrition or microbiology. Students then transfer to the dental college's freshman class, and their credits are transferred back to help the students officially complete their bachelor's degree requirements.

      Dental school classes cover topics such as endodontic therapy, comprehensive periodontal treatment and clinical radiology. The University of Florida College of Dentistry was established in 1972 and achieves the basic requirements for accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

    Tufts University

    • The Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, offers a seven-year program that combines bachelor's degree and dental studies as well. To get into the actual dental program, students must have an overall 3.2 grade point average as well as a 3.2 grade point average in dental school prerequisite courses. Students also must have strong Dental Admission Test scores.

      To fulfill the program's seven-year requirement, students typically must complete summer courses. The university has a wide variety of general and specialty dental clinics for students in the accelerated dental program. The Tufts University School of Dental Medicine was founded in 1868.

    University of the Pacific

    • The University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, offers a seven-year dental program that allows students to complete their bachelor's degree in any discipline at the Stockton campus in four years. Students in the Pre-Dental Advantage Program then can complete a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the university's school of dentistry in San Francisco in three years.

      Although bachelor's degree students in this honors program can major in any field, they must complete several science courses. Students must have a 3.7 high school grade point average and strong standardized test scores to get into the accelerated program. The University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry was founded in San Francisco in 1896.
